What is Animation?

Animation consists of multiple images that give an illusion of movement when displayed in rapid sequence; the images are called frames and key frames. Animators can work in a variety of fields including film, television, video games, and the internet. Usually, an animation piece requires the collaboration of several animators. The methods of creating the images or frames for an animation piece depend on the animators’ artistic styles and their field.

Requirements

Students enrolled in an animation program will be taking broad range of classes in the subject and will include classical animation, 3D animation and modeling, visual effects or character animation. Students are expected to develop their techniques, cultivate their personal style and create a first-class animation reel. Aside from animation, students are expected to learn storyboarding and concept art to stop motion puppet making and set design.

A degree in Animation provides opportunities to meet industry professionals with many internship opportunities. An advanced education can also be pursued for those wanting to hone their design skills in 2D and 3D animation. An animation degree program can take up to 3 years to complete for undergraduates, but once completed, those with the degree will able to take on full-time jobs in design studios.
